Lyra is the name of a MP3 player from RCA (Thomson in Germany).
When turned on it displays a Thomson logo and later on, for a
short while, a "Real Jukebox" logo. This is the logo
of the ugly software you have to use to download music to this
device. This logo is contained in the memory card you get
together with the player. The file is
named SCREEN.BIT
and is stored under
the Pmp
directory. As the extension suggests it's
a bitmap.
Making your own logo is just a matter of creating your own 96x48 PBM file with your favourite image editor (The Gimp for instance), convert it with the following program and download it to the Compact Flash card (with the ugly CF reader provided with the player, if you prefer).
A useful application of this program is to personalise the toy with your name and address. Try for instance pbmtext. Don't forget to cut the image to the requested size of 96x48 pixels (pnmcut) .
The program was written in five minutes. The only aim was readability.
After the compilation the resulting lyra2pbm and pbm2lyra are the same executable. Install them accordingly.
